How to Remove Wine Spills from Your Carpets

From parties to holidays & romantic evenings to family dinners this beverage is present at all of ’em, Wine. Wine is made for entertaining, enhancing and enjoyment, but one simple slip and next thing you know your carpet is soaking up a delectable bouquet of that aged dry red.  No worry needed. Memerize these simple steps so you can quickly remove that red wine stain before it becomes a permanent resident of those pearly white carpets.

Note: Before removing any stain on your own make certain your carpet does not have any special cleaning requirements, such is the case with carpets made from natural materials or those containing special dyes.  In the event you are unsure don’t hesitate to contact Chem-Dry Stone Oak & speak to one of our trained technicians.

Stain Removal 101:

As soon as the wine makes contact with the carpet apply a clean towel and begin to blot the stain. Remove as much of the stain as you can before scrubbing. Scrubbing the stain will only penetrate the substance deeper into the carpet fibers.

After you have soaked up as much you can there are a couple of handy items you can use in the home to remove or reduce the damage of the stain.  Before you begin application of any stain removal product or household item, be sure to test the remedy on a small patch of undamaged carpet. Using older pieces of carpet that you have stored away is a great way to test if your homemade concoction is safe for your carpets.

  • Club Soda: This bubbly concoction is great for cleaning most any stain.  It works on the same principles of our Hot Carbon Extraction method.  The bubbles help breakup the stain and the higher levels of acidity give it deeper stain penetrating power.
  • Salt: If you don’t have any of these products handy, which every household should, salt has great natural absorbing powers.  Once the salt soaks up the stain you can quickly run it over with a vacuum cleaner to make sure everything is lifted from the carpet.
  • Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda: These household items might just be the most multitalented products in your kitchen cupboard.  Lightly spray some hydrogen peroxide on the stain and follow-up with a sprinkling of baking soda.  Combined, these items help dissolve stains and soak left over particles.  Finish up with warm water on a clean towel, more blotting and then vacuum up excess baking soda.
  • White Wine: It might seem counterproductive at first, but white wine can actually help break down a red wine stain.  Pour white wine over a stain and blot with warm water.

If none of these home remedies work, professional cleaning may be required.  Using an arsenal of safe and effective stain removal products with the most innovative equipment, Chem-Dry Stone Oak can knock tough stains out of carpets, rugs and upholstery for good.
